Why Scat?
Definition: scat 1 (skt) To go away hastily; leave at once. In the hearts and minds of most USA citizens our democracy expressed through honest process is scatting. We are losing faith in the process and for good reason; the process is stacked against the people and substantially for those who have political power that is significantly expressed in terms of money. Money to pervert the honesty of messages, money paid not on merit but on undue influence, money to be made at the sake of the hardworking taxpayers. Money is taken away from those projects that serve the people best and spent on projects that makes money for the moneyed interests and insures money will be given in campaign contributions. We at SCAT say that the tunnel is an excellent representative of all of the corruption of our democratic values. We say scat to the tunnel, go away from the stacked “citizens committees” where those chosen are already in agreement with the tunnel. Go away, scat, from bureaucratic reports that do not reflect the facts, but in fact are altered to reflect the outcome that is desired. And if the costs need to show two billion dollars, the facts scat and they doctor up the ‘new and improved’ facts to come out with the conclusion they seek. WSDOT has done all this scat with the facts very ably. We on the other hand have the facts that show how they mess with the numbers and give the citizens a disingenuous result (many would make the case that the results are dishonest). Government working on behest of the moneyed interests has access to free funds, i.e. tax dollars. The funds are free because government does not have to work to earn the money, they simply tax. (And yes they do provide services, but in most cases very inefficiently as it is not their money). The tunnel and how government is not giving an honest answer about the costs is about the money being ‘free’. But SCAT does not have free money and needs your financial support to mount the suits to start to put a stop to projects such as the tunnel where the facts are distortions, [perhaps lies?!] Defination2 skt. Jazz singing in which improvised, meaningless syllables are sung to a melody. It is our intention to make meaning out of the “improvised” Environmental Impact Statements (EIS), NEPA and SEPA, and to use the courts, which are far less influenced by money and politics, to ensure that we have Law and Order. The first place that we need obedience to the Law is that Government obeys the laws and fairly represents all the people, of all economic classes. The people of Seattle voted against the tunnel, but the power classes overruled the people in an amazing perversion of democracy. The constitution and the very basic aspects of freedom are to ensure that government follows the Law. A government that thinks that because it makes the Laws it is above the Law is what the Constitution and the Bill of Rights are about. Substantial parts of the Ten Commandments are that there is a Higher Power of morality and justice, beyond the King of old and the corrupt democracy of new. So we at SCAT are taking action to stop the scatting by government, to stop them making no sense, nonsense out of thin air to the detriment of the people, democracy, and Freedom. A lawless government is a greater threat to Freedom than a few evildoers. So the tunnel is where we start to stop this scatting of the facts and making government comply with the Law. SCAT needs both your financial and moral support. Definition 3: skt Excrement, especially of an animal; dung Simply put, with the tunnel the taxpayers get the scat, and the big unions, big engineering firms, big downtown interests get the meat and potatoes. History has shown a 90% likelihood that projects such as the Tunnel go significantly over budget. Just think of the Big Dig in Boston. The selfish forces that benefit from the tunnel will try and bull-scat the public that they can do the job on time and on budget. Here is an example of how we are being scatted upon. The tunnel has half the capacity of the present Viaduct and costs four times what an elevated replacement of the Viaduct would cost. Why to try and scat the taxpayers into buying an inferior product? The planned tunnel does not make sense, it is inadequate and under designed to property perform its transportation functions including access. The government, both City of Seattle and Washington State, are cutting corners and distorting facts to create a budget that appears in line. A key transportation corridor such as this ill-advised tunnel, must be designed at the highest and best levels for it to perform, not on the cheap. [the design is cheap, the cost will be dear] Seniors beware: As we drive into the tunnel from the bright sun, and when Seattle is bright the light is strong, within 60 seconds you will be coming to a semi blind curve and if cars are stopped ahead, then accidents are going to happen. And remember, accidents in tunnels cause many times the magnitude of destruction and injury than when they occur on an above ground, open highway. We cannot protect seniors or the taxpayers without your financial and moral support. Each lawsuit will cost over $100,000 and it will likely take several lawsuits as the tunnel is a very complex project with lots of permits and lots of related government efforts going into trying to improvise [scat] on the facts; not to mention lots of special interests wanting to scat upon the public and its hard earned dollars for these special interests’ benefit.
